Jamming with Friends in the Seventies
Three friends jamming on piano, conga, flute around 1974. 45 minutes, six tracks.
When we moved into the Monterey Avenue house in Berkeley, CA, Sondra insisted on having a piano in the parlor. Her dear friend, Jim Ward (now deceased) was an improvisational virtuoso on the piano. One afternoon, we got to jamming together with Jim on piano, Ned on his conga drum and Sondra on flute and occasional vocals, all recorded on cassette recorder.
You might also hear some sniffling on the tape. Musicians, you know, and this was the seventies. However, there is such a sense of spontaneity and pure joy that suffuses the music and the banter. This recording, a true treasure, was digitized and cut into six MP3 tracks and published here today, on Sondra’s 77th birthday. A trip down a musical memory lane.
Enjoy
