As clients arrive at my niece’s upscale salon in Phoenix, they are greeted not by ordinary receptionists, but by a dynamic cheerleading duo, the self-appointed, self-anointed HYPE SQUAD. They are both literally and metaphorically upfront with their mission. They needed “a logo.”

When they requested a graphic T-shirt design, there were only two specifications: we like smileys and the color pink. Here you go, my dear ladies:
